Welcome!
Being a hunting widow is an interesting lifestyle. People who don’t live it tend to not understand it. But for those of us who do live it, we understand that it’s more than just a hobby of our husbands—it’s a passion that borderlines obsession. Such a passion takes on a life of its own, and to say it can be trying on a relationship is a monumental understatement. Although there will always be moments of frustration, disappointment and anger, each of us can choose to either let it negatively impact our lives on a grand scale, or we can learn to embrace it; create our own identity in relation to it and have a ton of fun doing so. And for this, HuntingWidow.com has been created. Through humor, attitude and community, we hope to create an identity for ourselves in relation to our husbands’ obsession with hunting. Because you can’t fight gravity and you can’t fight hunting. Don’t get me wrong. I’m the last person who intends to lose my identity to become some doormat-follower who trudges behind my husband on the hunts and feigns excitement for yet another dead animal on the wall. On the contrary; I want to take the opportunity to shift my mind set and identity to parallel his—not to mimic his. And don’t worry, husbands; we don’t intend on pushing ourselves into every aspect of your lives or tag along on every hunt. Let’s be honest: When hunting season is 9 months long, it’s not only a good idea, but a necessity to include family in some way. And for many of us, that does NOT include endless hiking, blood and guts or antlers in any way. So herein lies the question; if we don’t enjoy hunting, how do we create this parallel in our lives with our husbands? That’s what we hope to explore through the huntingwidow.com website. It’s a community of resources (that’s you, the members), funny stories to remind us not to take ourselves too seriously, ideas for shared trips and whatever you and I want it to be. So share your stories, experiences, frustrations, questions, video clips, great moments and ideas. And if you have an idea for the site, please let us know. Thanks for visiting! ~ Sheri & Amber, Hunting Widows
